While wisdom teeth may have been helpful to us in the past, today they are more than likely to hinder oral health rather than help it. This is largely because wisdom teeth used to replace teeth that would eventually fall out due to poor oral health and limited access to certain foods. Nowadays, more people are practicing proper oral health and they are not forced to eat tough reed plants to survive like our ancestors. However, when a wisdom tooth erupts and it’s causing issues, our team at Oasis Family Dentistry is prepared to remove them, all while ensuring your comfort. Feel free to call our office to get your problematic wisdom teeth removed!
In most cases, the human mouth is not large enough to accommodate any additional wisdom teeth, let alone four. In rare instances, the mouth can be large enough to hold additional wisdom teeth. However, it’s more likely that you will start to feel discomfort in the back of your mouth as well as loose gum tissue as the tooth begins to erupt. In some cases, the tooth can be trapped underneath gum tissue, resulting in an impacted tooth. Without treatment, this can increase the risk of an oral infection. If you notice oral discomfort and you have otherwise good oral health, schedule an exam at our office and we will confirm if an extraction is needed.
