When teeth become severely damaged, either by long-term decay or from a physical injury, sometimes they need to be removed. While this is not the first treatment we recommend, as keeping natural teeth is always more ideal, damaged teeth can actually put neighboring teeth at risk if they are not promptly removed. If this is the case, you can expect a caring team, a gentle touch from Dr. Hung, and multiple tooth replacement options moving forward. Give our office a call and we will make sure your extraction is smooth and successful.
One of the most common reasons a tooth is extracted is because of longstanding decay. In most cases, the tooth is so damaged that it can no longer function properly, even if it were to be restored with a crown or root canal therapy. In other cases, a tooth can be broken from a physical injury. If the tooth is cracked down to the root, it’s unlikely that it can be saved. Teeth can also erupt and cause damage to neighboring teeth, which is often the case for wisdom teeth. If you need orthodontics, such as traditional braces, some teeth may need to be removed to accommodate treatment.
