The gums are an incredibly important part of your long-term oral health, but it’s not only because they are responsible for providing a home for your teeth. Gum health is just as much tied to your overall health, so it’s very important that you seek treatment if they ever become infected as a result of plaque buildup. Thankfully, Dr. Hung has multiple treatments to address all levels of gum disease, so don’t hesitate to give us a call if you experience sore, tender, red or bleeding gums!
Advanced levels of gum disease require more than simply improved at-home care or a professional cleaning. Through scaling and root planing, we can remove calcified plaque both above and below the gum line, the latter of which cannot be reached through traditional brushing methods. Root planing is the process of smoothing out the tooth roots so they can reattach to the gums. It also works to reduce the risk of future infection and relieve gum recession, a common side effect of gum disease.
